Intro to Backcountry Riding for Riverstone
This backcountry outing introduces young adults skiers and/or boarders from Riverstone School to the Mores Creek Summit area.
This introductory course It is designed to familiarize newcomers to Pilot, Freeman, or Sunset Peak backcountry skiing areas.
Participants are mentored on how to recognize and safely travel in avalanche terrain.
Participants get to practice the basics of companion rescue.
Includes: Bitacora field book, waterproof slope angle shaded topo map for Mores Creek Summit, Rescue card, Backcountry Skiing Rituals/Protocols card, and access to Avalanche Science online materials.
Online Orientation: 2 hours to be scheduled.
Field Session: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Excursion
Meet at 8:00 AM at MCS trailhead.
Return to the trailhead by 4 PM.
Maximum of 12 participants (including Riverstone teachers)
Requirements: Avalanche rescue gear and ski touring equipment or split-board.
